Safe everyday use
Fernva products are pet accessories. They are not veterinary products, medical devices or a substitute for diagnosis, treatment or advice from a qualified veterinarian. Read the product instructions, select the correct size and supervise your cat whenever the product or your cat's behaviour makes supervision appropriate.
Cooling mats
- Place the mat on a clean, smooth surface away from direct heat, flames and sharp objects.
- Inspect seams and surfaces before each use. Stop using the mat immediately if it is punctured, torn, swollen or leaking.
- Prevent chewing and do not allow a cat to ingest gel, foam or filling material.
- If contents contact the eyes, mouth or skin, follow the manufacturer instructions and contact a veterinarian or poisons service if exposure or symptoms are concerning.
- A cooling mat does not prevent heat stress. During hot Australian weather, always provide fresh water, shade, airflow and access to a cooler indoor space.
Water fountains
- Wash food-contact parts before first use and clean the bowl, pump cover and accessible tubing regularly according to the product instructions.
- Replace filters at the manufacturer-recommended interval, or sooner if flow, odour or visible build-up changes.
- Keep the water above the minimum level and disconnect power before cleaning or handling the pump.
- Inspect cables, plugs and adapters. Stop use if electrical parts are damaged, wet where they should remain dry or unusually hot.
- A fountain supplements routine care; it does not guarantee adequate water intake. Seek veterinary advice about sudden changes in drinking or urination.
Grooming brushes, rakes and combs
- Keep pins, blades and teeth away from eyes, ears, wounds, inflamed skin and other sensitive areas.
- Use light pressure and short sessions. Never pull through a tight mat or force a tool against resistance.
- Stop if your cat shows pain, escalating distress or skin irritation.
- Remove loose hair from the tool after use and clean it according to its material and manufacturer instructions.
- Seek professional grooming or veterinary advice for severe matting, skin lesions or unexplained coat loss.
Cat trees, enclosures and scratchers
- Assemble every part exactly as instructed and tighten all fasteners before use.
- Place the product on a level, non-slip surface. Use wall restraints or anchors whenever supplied or recommended.
- Check platforms, posts, welds, mesh, hinges, latches and scratching surfaces regularly for movement, wear or exposed sharp parts.
- Stop use if the structure rocks, fasteners loosen, panels deform or material detaches.
- Confirm the usable dimensions and load rating for your individual cat; do not rely on breed wording alone.
Toys and small parts
- Choose toys large enough that they cannot be swallowed and supervise play with strings, feathers, bells, elastic, electronic parts or detachable pieces.
- Inspect toys before and after play. Discard them when seams open, stuffing emerges, cords fray or parts become loose.
- Store wand and string toys out of reach after supervised play.
- If you suspect your cat swallowed part of a toy, contact a veterinarian promptly.
When to stop using any product
Stop use immediately if a product is damaged, unstable, leaking, overheating, causing rubbing or irritation, or no longer fits securely. Keep packaging, batteries, silica packets and detachable parts away from pets and children.
